Crow's Nest Cafe & Country Store sits right on the Trans-Canada Highway in Tlell, offering a laid-back pit stop for both locals and travelers making their way through northern Haida Gwaii. It’s the kind of spot where the road-weary can grab a solid cup of coffee, enjoy some homemade baked goods, and maybe pick up a few basics from its modest country store selection.

The vibe here leans toward casual comfort—busy but unhurried, with a friendly team who clearly value the community they serve. After recent management changes, the service has noticeably warmed up, making the cafe a more inviting place to unwind. It has a straightforward menu, not sprawling but thoughtfully put together, including standout items like ginger cookies that have earned local fans.

People often stop in for morning coffee runs or afternoon breaks, especially after visiting the local market nearby. The atmosphere is easygoing, making it a spot where you can linger over a drink or grab a quick, satisfying bite. Thanks to accommodating new owners, even those with simple dietary needs, like vegetarians, find something tasty to enjoy.

One touch that sets Crow’s Nest apart is its dual role as a small country store, stocked with groceries and essentials—an unexpected convenience if you’re traveling between Masset and Skidegate or staying close by. This practical element, combined with fresh baking and coffee, positions the cafe as a useful local hub rather than just a standard roadside stop.

Overall, Crow’s Nest Cafe is best for anyone looking for a welcoming, no-frills spot to recharge on the island, whether you’re grabbing a morning brew, craving some homemade sweets, or topping up your pantry before continuing your journey. Midday visits tend to catch a busy but easy vibe, with neighborhood regulars and visitors mixing naturally under the gentle buzz of friendly service.

Recommended to us by a few locals. Friendly service and great food! Simple but delicious. Apparently under new management; previous owner had some health issues which led to the poor service mentioned in older reviews.

This place is under new management as of the last month or so and the family that is running it is just delightful. The menu is limited but the food is delicious, and they went out of their way each time we visited to accommodate us as (very non-picky) vegetarians. The ice cream is out of this world. Stop by and support them! :)

Second time while here on this, today we stopped in after the market. It was busy, the vibe was chill and the staff were really nice. The new owners have def brought a new vibe. We look forward to coming back.

Was delighted to stop in for great coffee and baked goods. Also noted that they had some grocery supplies that you can pick up if you are staying between Masset and Skidegate. Nice and convenient. My favorite treat was the ginger cookies. Delicious!
